What did you drink that made you do your last famous Hollywood "spit-take"?
Submitted by LittleGreenBook.
My friend Nicole recently caused me to not only spit out a big mouthful of vodka and tonic but also choke on it at the same time. Yes, that was me: covered in vodka and coughing with alarming fervor for about ten minutes. In the middle of a crowded bar. Damn you, Nicole.
What's your suggestion for the Question of the Day?
Inspired by Princesskasren.
You know, I was just thinking that I should really stop by Vox more often to check what the Question of the Day is. Then I did, and discovered this: the stupidest QotD ever.
Are you throwing or attending a holiday party this year? Any ideas/tips to share?
My company's non-specific, non-cultural, gender-neutral Seasonal Festivities Dinner was just last night, actually. We engaged in eating, drinking, and other seasonal festivity at Paladar, which was wonderful. It's a great space, very attentive (and persuasive) service, and the food was fantastic. Try the empanadas.
I also have Christmas with the family, of course. But I don't know if I have any tips for either type of event. My general rule of thumb is to drink enough to have fun but not enough to pass out. You'd be surprised how many situations this applies to.
What's on your holiday wish list?
Funny you should ask. Wouldn't it be great if there were a way you could see the entire list, right there on the Internets?
I guess that isn't completely exhaustive, though. I would also like a tea kettle.
What albums are in heavy rotation for you right now?
This one's easy. I can't stop listening to Bone Machine, although I've been making a real effort to - I have a tendency to overplay albums I love. Then I get sick of them and don't listen to them again for years, which is a real shame.
My compromise has just been to listen to all my Tom Waits albums on shuffle, so I still get a track from Bone Machine here and there. I have to get my fix somehow.
How well do you know your next-door neighbors?
We live in a ginormous apartment building and know exactly nobody else. I'm aware that there's a guy on my floor who reads Macworld, and another somewhere in the building who claims to work for The Daily Show. And that the people who live above us have an irritating child. That's it.
How cute were you as a baby/child? Let's see those baby pics!
You want baby pictures? I got yer baby pictures right here.
What is your favorite cover song?
This is a tough one, but I'd have to go with Bauhaus's cover of Ziggy Stardust. They actually closed with it at the show I saw in November, and it was a great way to end the night - sore feet and all.
What was your favorite candy when you were a kid? How does that compare to now?
As a kid, I was wild about Halloween candy. The type didn't matter all that much, I was mostly into the holiday itself and the spooky wrappers and the actual trick-or-treating ritual. If it was black or orange or featured bats or pumpkins, I loved it.
These days, Halloween candy is still a guilty seasonal pleasure, but I also have a certain fondness for exotic truffles, like these. I received a box of them for Valentine's Day this year and loved every one.
