What is your favorite cover song?
This is a tough one, but I'd have to go with Bauhaus's cover of Ziggy Stardust. They actually closed with it at the show I saw in November, and it was a great way to end the night - sore feet and all.
What was your favorite candy when you were a kid? How does that compare to now?
As a kid, I was wild about Halloween candy. The type didn't matter all that much, I was mostly into the holiday itself and the spooky wrappers and the actual trick-or-treating ritual. If it was black or orange or featured bats or pumpkins, I loved it.
These days, Halloween candy is still a guilty seasonal pleasure, but I also have a certain fondness for exotic truffles, like these. I received a box of them for Valentine's Day this year and loved every one.
What was the highlight of this past weekend?
Believe it or not, it was probably watching War of the Worlds with Chris. As scared as I am of crazy Tom Cruise, there's just something neat about a movie in which people are being vaporized within the first twenty minutes.
Chris claims it's exceedingly difficult to watch movies with me, because I'm prone to yelling at the screen. I maintain that this only applies to stupid movies which deserve to be yelled at. (HOW COME THE BUILDINGS GET VAPORIZED BUT THE STREET DOES NOT? WHY DO THE ALIENS LOOK LIKE SLIMY CATS? THIS MOVIE SUCKS!) However, it's true that we both seem to really enjoy stupid movies as long as there's plenty of death - Cabin Fever, Saw, Saw II and Hostel all come to mind - so I suppose I should shut up and let the stupid people get disemboweled in peace.
What's one thing that you hope to do or accomplish before the end of this year?
This one's going to sound doofy, but I'd like to reclaim more of my real life from the creeping horror that is World of Warcraft. This is a process Chris and I have already started - we no longer play seven nights a week and all day on the weekends, as we did through most of 2005. We actually leave our apartment fairly regularly these days - it's pretty astounding. In theory, my current schedule is limited to three nights of raiding per week, and I think that's a reasonable amount.
But I often allow myself to sneak an extra raid night here or there, and that's something I should quit doing. The time I spend not at the office is precious enough as it is, and Warcraft doesn't need to claim any more of it.
I must be the millionth person to say it, but it's true that I miss the era when I first started blogging and didn't have to censor myself. Part of it was that very few people read my site, part of it was that I was young and stupid enough not to care who might read it. These days, though, there's very little I'm willing to talk about publicly on the web, so the notion of having something I can limit to friends or family without resorting to Livejournal is an appealing one. It's possible this is just yet another user account that will languish in perpetual neglect. We'll see.
In any case, if you'd like to read the juicy stuff I may or may not
actually post, just create an account here and make sure I know who you
are. It doesn't matter if we know each other in meatspace or only on the Internets.
